Messages, group chats and moments
Messages: talk one to one, with bold, italic and underline, sent and read ticks, pictures, videos and documents (how big and how many depends on your plan), voice notes of up to 5 minutes and stickers. You can also drag pictures and files into a conversation, or paste them. You can block or report anyone. Open Messages.
At the top of every conversation is the person's picture, their name with any badge, and whether they are online (see Followers, following and online status). The phone and camera buttons start a free voice or video call with anyone you follow who follows you back; tap Call back on any call line to call again (see Voice and video calls). The small arrow beside it opens a menu: View profile, View moments, Create group, Mute notifications (no bell, push or email for that one conversation until you unmute it), Block and Report.
Group chats: start a group from Messages with up to 50 people you follow or who follow you. The top of a group shows its picture and how many members it has. Group admins see a ⚙️ Manage button at the top of the group. From there they can rename it, set the group picture, add and remove people, make others admin, switch member messages off (then only admins can write and everyone else can still read) and back on, and ban someone who misbehaves: they are removed and can't be added back until an admin unbans them. Admins can also tap Remove under any message to take it out of the group: everyone then sees "Message removed by a group admin" in its place, and any files in it are deleted. If you don't see these options, you aren't an admin of that group: the members list marks who is. Anyone can leave or mute a group, and any message from someone else can be reported to #NotesApp; if we act on a report, the message is removed ("Message removed by #NotesApp").
Moments: share a picture, a video of up to 90 seconds or a line of text on your profile picture for 24, 48 or 72 hours. Followers see them in the Moments row on Journals; you choose whether only followers, or everyone, can see yours. A moment is not your profile picture: to change your picture, tap + on your own picture and choose Update profile picture, or go to Edit profile.
